Frequently Asked Questions
What is JnU Teachers?
An independent, student-built platform where JnU students give structured, anonymous feedback on their teachers by answering a fixed set of questions. It is not run or endorsed by the university administration.
Can I use this to choose my teacher or section?
No. Jagannath University does not have an open credit system. That is, students cannot choose their courses, sections, or teachers, so there is nothing to switch to based on a rating. This platform exists purely to collect and share feedback, not to help with course selection.
Who can create an account?
Any currently enrolled regular JnU student. Students from professional programs are eligible to create an account. Sign-up requires a photo of your student ID card, which an admin manually reviews before your account is approved.
How do I rate a teacher?
Open a teacher's profile and answer all 12 questions: Agree, Neutral, or Disagree, based on your own experience in their class. You can only rate teachers within your own department.
Why isn't there a comment box anymore?
The platform previously allowed free-text comments, but has since moved to a fixed questionnaire. This makes feedback more consistent and comparable across teachers, and removes the moderation burden of abusive or unfair written comments.
How is the star rating calculated?
For each category, the star score reflects the percentage of "Agree" answers across that category's three questions, averaged across every student who has rated that teacher. The overall rating is the average across all four categories.
Can other students see how I answered?
No. Individual answers are never shown or listed anywhere. Teacher profiles only display aggregated percentages and star averages across everyone who responded.
Can I change my answers after submitting?
Yes. Revisit the teacher's profile at any time and resubmit. Your new answers replace your previous ones for that teacher, rather than creating a duplicate entry.
Why do I need to verify my email?
Email verification adds a layer of credibility on top of ID approval, and helps keep the feedback genuine. You can browse teacher profiles without verifying, but you'll need to verify before rating.
What happens if my sign-up is put on hold?
An admin will send you an email explaining what needs to be fixed (for example, an unclear ID photo). Log in, go to your profile, and follow the prompt there to correct and resubmit your information.
Why can I only rate teachers in my own department?
This keeps feedback grounded in a student's actual academic experience with a teacher. You can still browse every teacher listed on the platform, regardless of department.
Is this platform official or affiliated with JnU?
No. JnU Teachers is an independent project built and maintained by a student. It is not an official university system, and the university administration does not operate or endorse it.
